Pick for This Week, List for Next
Okay, this week I read through:
Spidey, Elektra, New Avengers, Avengers: Init., Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, X-Force, The Hood, Gotham Gazette, Green Lantern, Usagi, Ghost Rider, Wolverine: Origins, Old Man Logan, Guardians of the Galaxy, Aliens and Spidey's Short Halloween. My pick for this week?
Tough one...
Right now, it's New Avengers and Moon Knight in equal first. Very close behind that is Amazing Spidey, Elektra and Gotham Gazette.
While I dug how nicely Moon Knight wrapped up what has been a pretty fuckin' rad story by Mike Benson, New Avengers just had so many "moments" that I count as awesome. Spidey's "Power Man and Iron Fist" jab was hilarious, and Bucky Cap's sniping was very slick, and for some reason I dug the hell outta Hellstrom and his cockiness.
Joe Kelly's dialogue in Spidey was fantastic, and I always love the Spiderman/Wolverine "moments" too, and there's a great one here. Spidey's confrontation with Norman in the Dark Reign era is something I've been waiting to see for a while now, and this was pretty damn good. Not perfect, but the start of that sequence is fantastic, as is Norman's dialogue.
Elektra has just been a fantastic read all round, and this issue really started building some intrigue (I love intrigue). Gotham Gazette, while I haven't really been enjoying Battle for the Cowl, I did like the way this sorta wrapped it up and kicked things off from this point on. I hope Vale will have a bigger part in things from this point on though. She was great here.
Anyway, here's my list for this coming week, with a prediction for the pick:
MARVEL
Agents of Atlas #6
Amazing Spider-Man #596
Black Panther #5
Dark Avengers #5
Dark Avengers #5 pham incentive
Deadpool Suicide Kings #3
Mighty Avengers #25
New Avengers The Reunion #4 (of 4)
Thunderbolts #131 2nd print
Timestorm 2009-2099 Spider-Man
Ultimate Spider-Man #133
Ultimatum #4
War of Kings #4
DC
Batman and Robin #1
INDEPENDENT
Muppet Show #3
I'm thinking it'll be toss between Dark Avengers, Spidey and Batman and Robin. Leaning towards Dark Avengers though, based purely off the previous issues and the preview Marvel put out there.

Spooky
Okay, so to top off what has been something of a personal nightmare the past week, I just arrived home from pawning off some things to find the side gate wide open and the back door unlocked. Nothing's gone, the dog is fine, and after making some calls, nobody has been to my house (nobody I know at least). This creeps the shit out of me because my place has been scoped before and now I'm paranoid as fuck.
Things don't look good for pitches right now. Still got my fingers crossed, but I'll be really disappointed if none make it through, as it means I may have to call off going to San Diego.
Sorry folks, bad day after an even worse past week. Had hoped things would pick up, but it doesn't look like they're going to (this isn't a defeatist attitude -- something I refuse to bow to -- but right now, it doesn't look like there's much positive in the pipeline unless some slim chance manages to u-bolt the whole thing). It's also cold and wet. Boo.

Pitch Please!
See what I did there? Eh? EH?!
Got two pitches sent off tonight, so fingers crossed they work out. Gotta organise two more quick-smart, whip them into shape. Hopefully at least one of them lands. Situation at home is rather dire. Fuckin' Skrull.

New Reviews!
Sam Moore has just started his own comic book review website, and even before what I'm about to link went up there, I thought it was a really great place. Really nice layout, straightforward and easy to navigate. His reviews are always really well thought out and written, and though a little heavy on the DC side at the moment, are great to read. I suggest TMNT fans AND comics fans in general keep an eye on this site. Right now though, I take great pleasure in seeing this there:
A Comic Book Review
Hopefully the ones that follow hold up that well!
I'm also very happy to see that the follow up story was received so well too. If you're a TMNT fan, make sure you keep coming back to THIS WEBSITE as the reviews are great, honest and totally Turtle centric (Archie and Mirage both being present)!
A warning though: Tales #59 won't hit stores until later in June, and the review does have a play-by-play synopsis, so if you want to avoid spoilers I suggest you scroll right down until you hit the "review" section of the page!

Exposé. Skrulls. Jobs. Poos.
...well, maybe not that last one. Not here anyway. Really keen people may want to check out my twitter for poo-related postings!
Anyway, got an email from Eric Talbot today to say that Tales #59 was good to go! Had a look at the final product and am really proud of it! I really hope I get to see Lauren Stanton and King Cobra come back, and I hope you people reading dig both of enough to make that happen!
For those of you interested in the production side of things, Andres ran into a slight problem with the toning for the upcoming #61, in that what I think most will agree was an awesome way of presenting night time atmosphere using the greys (not the aliens) had to be altered. The original is posted somewhere below (maybe immediately) if you want to take a gander. Anyway, the problem was that the greys essentially weren't going to work with the printer, as it was too dark overall. Andres raised the brightness, and the scene kinda lost the neat, noir effect we'd been trying to create with the book. After consulting with both Dan and longtime Turtles artist Dario Brizuela, Andres hit upon a solution. Luckily he wasn't too far into the toning so there wasn't a need to redo a lot of stuff. Anyway, below is a look at a page Andres sent me. The first version is the one that had the raised brightness, the second one involves some minor tweaking, but it really does make a difference. I've also attached the original toned page too.

A while back, some of you may have noticed cryptic posts regarding the Skrulls, which are ugly green shapeshifting bastards from outerspace bent on ruining our way of life and taking our planet for themselves. There was something to that that linked to certain events involving my family that I'm not quite ready to talk about yet, but tomorrow the "Secret Invasion" so to speak will be pretty much over. There is a heavy cost to it all, and I can tell now that things aren't going to be easy for myself, my brother or my mother, but we're going to have to work out a way of making do. Part time study, here I come... looks like I'll have to start hitting the "I loathe doing this, but must" jobs again, too.
Anyway, inspite of all the bad, San Diego is around the corner, and hopefully I'll be able to sort something out sometime soon. Hopefully more Turtles, because I love it more than anything, but hopefully there'll be some other songs I can sing being belted out in the near future. Which reminds me, I found out I missed out on a writing gig I was really hoping for simply because of licensor procedural dealios. I was asked to pitch for something a while back that I would kill anyone to do (serious... or am I?) and missed out (which I thought I would) but it was only because I was asked to pitch as a back-up in case a pitch that the licensee had thought had been nixed was nixed. As it turns out, it wasn't, it just took them fucking ages to get back to the licensee, and by the time my pitch was looked at, the spot was filled. Fingers crossed for next time though!
Anyway, enough doom and gloom. Make sure your orders are in for this baby, because it's on the shelves this month!

Peace out!

Teknoman
There are a few cartoons I hold very near and dear. The Real Ghostbusters takes the cake, Batman: The Animated Series would come next, and while people tend to look back on the '90's as being the decade that gave us other gems like X-Men, Spiderman and Batman: The Animated Series, there is one show that really struck a chord with me and I finally got my hands on the entire run last night when I visited my local second hand dealer (I get most of my DVD's and CD's second hand... I'm a writer). The show is/was Teknoman.
Now, I'm not, and never have been a big anime person. I dug Samurai Pizza Cats and loved Neon Genesis Evangelion, but a lot of anime is just excrutiating for me to get through sometimes. I loved Ghost in the Shell, until the TV series came around... anyway, point is, this is the first "proper" anime I got into (Samurai Pizza Cats was one of those things that was so horrendously recut for Western audiences that it seems to be completely separate from the original show, it's also largely kids fare, and outside of the animation style, anime cliches or recognisable traits... so I don't count it). I haven't really sat down to watch it yet, but I'm stoked and can't wait to this weekend!

Smash Ross Brawl

Played Smash Bros. Brawl online for the first time in AGES last night now that I have a new internet connection here at home against Ross May (fellow TMNT writer and Cereal:Geek contributor) and I KICKED HIS ARSE!! Hahaha! I may suck at Mario Kart, but you best watch yo'self when I'm on the Smash Bros. train!
Actually, it wasn't that bad. There were some laggy moments but it was a good game!
If anyone else is up for some Nintendo-age or PS3 (I really wanna Rock Band it up with someone!), let me know!
