We Be Fast...

Okay, so, I just beat "Ghostbusters" on the PS3! Probably the most fun I've had playing a video game since... well...

Hmm...

I guess since "Twilight Princess" first hit! That might not mean much to some, but my TMNT fandom is only outdone by my love of "Indiana Jones", "Ghostbusters" and the "Legend of Zelda".

Anyway, here's my mini-mini-midgety review:

Shitloads of fun. As I said, the most fun I've had playing a video game in a LONG time. The story is great, and really feels like "Ghostbusters". The dialogue and scripting is fantastic, but one should expect no less from Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd themselves (they did write both movies, remember?). There is one fairly jarring chunk of exposition that probably could have been done away with and replaced by another level that would have covered it and extended the relatively short game a bit more.

The multiplayer is also a HEAP of fun, and if anyone wants to play, my ps3 callsign is DoomButton (one word, 'zactly as written there), so add me to your PSN buddy list and I'm more than happy to have a muck around when I get the chance.

There is a very neat explanation for a lot of the things left dangling in the films too, but I'm kinda glad they didn't explain how Stay Puft comes back properly (if I ever got the chance to write the comics I have an explanation up my sleeve that I'd love to use).

No news on any Turtles comics, or anything else. At the moment work is dry (read: none) so I'm working on a book with Andres Ponce at the moment -- tentatively titled "Dirty Deeds". Kind of an adult-oriented "Star Wars" sorta thing with a bit of "Gunsmith Cats" and a bit of "Cowboy Bebop" also thrown in for good measure. I've already put up some teaser artwork, some of which was originally planned to go with a Turtles pitch, but that's since changed (nudge-nudge, wink-wink)

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Biggest disappointment ever. I hate this movie. Say what you want about Jar Jar Binks, but he is nothing compared to the insult these two were.

Tales #59 Review at Comicrelated.com!

Click for this very pleasing review!

The Burning Man Cover Inks/Tales #59 In Stores NOW!

Super stoked! Jim Lawson's inked cover to my last TMNT book for the year! "The Burning Man" is due out in November. Can't express how excited I am by this!

What's also exciting is the fact that Tales #59 hit, which is a big issue for me personally as it was what I had originally intended to follow Tales #36 up with back in 2007. Go get it! Let me know what you thought! All feedback is good feedback!

From the Mouths of Babes... (Just not the ones I would've liked)

Okay, so, a while ago I put a post up saying that an 8 year old would be reviewing Tales #59. When I was told, I raised an eyebrow, but said "sure, whatever."

Here's that review.

As a review, it's decent, but 8 year olds aren't exactly the people visiting AICN.com wanting to know about comics are they?

I know people are split about the quantity of Turtle action in my stories, but as I've said, you gotta put certain pieces in place properly before you can go to war. For those concerned -- the war starts in August.

Andres Ponce is Good People

I just got an awesome email from Andres, which has put a massive smile on my face. No art involved, but it was just a great email. If you haven't had anything to do with Andres yet, you are missing out on one of the best dudes our species has to offer.

Here's some Andres stuff to make you peeps happy too.

Good With The Bad

So, I got home last night after a weekend of working to raise some much needed dosh. It's like a wafer thin scraping of dosh, but it all helps. Been thinking a lot about the future, with everything that's been going on in my family and how it's affecting everyone and even though I try to take each day as it comes, I've tried to have some loose plan to stick to (loose, because we all know what they say about best laid ones) but now it looks like those are being flushed too because of what's going on. Priorities are being shifted around and as much as I'd like to say that there's good stuff on the horizon, I'm not seeing anything right now.

From the looks of things, if TMNT does keep running through next year, the chances of me putting anything out there are pretty much zilch, so I'm going to be refocusing on things and really pushing those out. Not going to pay, but at least it's something out there.

Work's been near impossible to get a hold of, in both comics and support funds (retail, hospitality, whatever) with people largely blaming the economy, and me blaming nepotism. The old thing of "who you know, not what you know" seems to be shining through everywhere, and even then, half the people I do know can't do anything for me. Sorry to vent dudes and dudettes, it's been a shit of a past few weeks and a couple of salvos were fired when I got back yesterday, which kinda made things worse.

On the plus side, I did get to do a couple of neat things, and the downtime I've had on my hands means I finally ploughed through Mario Galaxy over the weekend. I also got the opportunity to see Terminator Salvation, which, while being rather disappointing, was a great break from things. I also just got the remake of Godzilla vs Mothra cheap from one of the local Chinese DVD shops (legit too) as well as Big Man Japan, which I've been DYING to see for ages now!

Also got a glimpse of the upcoming Ghostbusters comic from IDW, which is looking sweet as and has me all excited, and although I can't afford either (if the latter were to come out in the near future), these got me all excited:

Life and Times of the Unemployed

So, there are a few of you out there aware of the situation with my family and the amount of financial strain this has put me under (not to mention my mother as well). I'm endlessly grateful for the support. Haven't had much luck finding extra work to support things, but I'm going away for a few days to work for a friend and try and raise some money, and as much as I thought and hoped it'd never come to this, I may have to part with a substantial amount of my comics (including TMNT) to raise some extra dosh. If there are people with holes in their collections, email me ;)

Fingers crossed at least one of these pitches I put in works out, though things do look somewhat grim for the immediate/near future.

3 Page Preview of Tales #61

HOLYSHIT!

THIS was what I was hoping to see at E3 this year.
This scrapes in JUST behind Monkey Island as being made of pure win.
I still wish some Zelda Wii was shown though...

Okay for some reason IGN's embedding thing is fucked and I can't embed the real trailer here. For those who haven't seen it, it's pretty fuckin' ridiculous. Robert Carlysle, Patrick Stewart, Jason Isaacs and Hideo Kojima?! This is the Castlevania game I have been waiting for since Legacy of Darkness.

More E3 picks

I'm excited about these too...

Monkey Island Madness

People who really know me know that The Secret of Monkey Island 2 is my favorite game of all time. It's a perfect sequel and a damn near perfect adventure in its own right. Curse, the original Secret and Escape were all great as well, and the Monkey Island saga will always be my favorite game series of all time (yes, even over the Legend of Zelda titles), and this is why the following excites me more than anything. Only a Grim Fandango sequel could come close.

This is also EXTREMELY cool, but it bums me to no end that it isn't available on the Wii as well.

E3 could end now and I'd be more than satisfied. All I can hope for now is a NEW Zelda for the Wii. I'd also like to see an RE0/1 style remake of RE2 and RE3, but that's just me. Kid Icarus would be cool, like an update or a new game.
