Monsterism #45

Movie: Rosemary's Baby
Monster: Rosemary's Baby

I've seen this movie too many times to count. It's amazingly old, but amazingly effective too. This final scene is probably one of my all time favourite moments of any movie. The sheer horror in Mia Farrow's eyes is so utterly convincing that the fact you don't ever even see the baby is irrelevant. If someone can be THAT frightened, you know that something is horrifyingly wrong.

LOVE this movie. Saw it for the first time a few months ago and I really want to pick up the other 2 horror flicks by the same director that goes into the apartment trilogy.

Also, I see you're a horror fan, have you been reading David Hine's recent Spawn run. There's a touch of Rosemary's Baby in it, but I won't spoil anything unless you're interested or whatev.

No! To be honest, I haven't picked up Spawn since WAAAY back. Though I have been hearing a lot of good things about Hine's work, and loved his Son of M story. Who's on the art chores?

Do you remember what those other movies were?

Hine's first issue was 150. The first 12-13 issues Phil Tan was on art and was fantastic. That was the Armegeddon arc where all the talk about the End of Days finally came about. Then 166 Brian Haberline took over the art. Hine's run is about to end in the next 3 issues. Damn McFarlane seems to want to go back to the superhero style than stay in the horror style that Hine's been doing a good time with.

Have you read the continuation of Son of M, "Silent War?"

The other two movies are "Repulsion" and "The Tenant."

Still, it'll be interesting to see how McFarlane goes. He's been out of the game a long time now...

Repulsion is REALLY good too!

Yeah, I'm gonna make a list of a bunch of horror flicks. I'm a fan of horror but must admit that my knowledge of them is not rather vast at all.

Oh, btw, Hine has a horror graphic novel about to come out soon. I did a review and interview on my column. I've a feeling you'd love it, you gotta read it. It's called Strange Embrace, you've probably heard of it. But anyhoo, here are the links!

Go Tok. It's well worth it. Mia Farrow is great, and Charles Grodin is really young!!
