I Love Today
Today was a good day. Solely because this arrived in the mail:

I will never be able to say enough good things about Sam & Max or their creator, Steve Purcell. Go get the comics (they're collected into a big hilarious trade available from Telltale Games) and get this TV show. Humour flies thick and fast and there are some very eyebrow raising jokes in there too... especially for a Saturday morning cartoon!
Here's a neat interview with Steve Purcell about the show...
Peace!

Google Vanity
So I Googled my name. Look what turned up... outside of countless articles about that damn sailor!
http://comics.ign.com/articles/806/806078p8.html
Wish I'd known about that when it went up, but still really cool to find!

Castlevania Comic - Wishful Thinking
I was just over at Paul's blog, checking out some of his old art when I came across this again.
Now, I'm an insanely huge fan of the Castlevania series. I even got the chance to discuss the comic book possibilities with IDW's EIC Chris Ryall at last year's San Diego Comic Con. Unfortunately I'd heard that IDW lost the comic license to the franchise, but I'd also heard in the same breath that Silent Hill was a lost license as well, BUT a great new Silent Hill story was put out just last week by the crew over at IDW (so whether this is the last story or what I have no idea). Anyway, I saw this picture Paul whipped (ha! Get it? Sorry, in-joke...) up and couldn't help but think how unreal it'd be to do a Castlevania mini with Paul. So much potential for complete, dominating awesomeness! Alas...
If anyone does know who's got the license right now or what the status of it is, I'd love to know!
You should check out Paul's his Dracula designs too (though not strictly Castlevania's Dracula)! His blog is linked at the side...
Peace!

"Percent sign ampersan dollar sign... and colon semicolon too!" It!
Proverbial Cats and Bags
I'd been sitting on it a while now, until I could say something about it, but the big news (for me at least) is that Paul Harmon will be providing the art on Tales of the TMNT #50! Unfortunately, Jim Lawson - the artist I was originally set to work with - was unable to take on the job to to his own massive workload, so Paul was asked to step in just a couple of weeks ago.
I know the roughs of his Leatherhead design are now up on Murph's blog and Ryan's, but bear in mind that they are just that - roughs. They're close to what we're going to have in the end, but having just seen th rough for the cover, they don't really do the colossal scale of our Leatherhead justice. There are some very noticeable differences in the latter design changes, so keep an eye out and hopefully I'll be able to post something soon! If anyone knows how physically massive some of the characters in the Capcom fighting games can be (I always think Birdie, for those in the know, but he's almost on par with the Juggernaut from X-men and well... Marvel vs Street Fighter).
Oh, and the creature in the post below is part of the same project!
Peace!

Bunyip Rough and the Long Weekend
Heading away for the long weekend here in Melbourne (Labor Day on Monday), unfortunately I've still got to go into uni on the public holiday, but the weather is going to be stinkin' hot here the next couple of days, and I'm heading down the Peninsula to chill for a bit and earn some dosh.
Here's a bit of a rough for a project I'm working on with Tales #36 artist Paul Harmon, which, from the looks of things should be ready to hit the shelves late in the year. For anyone who ever wondered what a Bunyip looks like, here's how I see it (loosely):
In case you don't know, a bunyip is one of those borderline cryptids. Some say it exists, some don't. It's kind of like any other creature of land based folklore, and I'm pretty sure bunyips came from stories warning kids not to go near billabongs and the like here in Australia. They're meant to be amphibious mammals that prey on anything that comes in their territory. Anyway, a couple are featured in this project, but I don't want to say much more than that. Other cryptids are involved, and when I dig up the old sketches I'll post them too.
Woke up this morning to find my car had been egged (along with every other car on my side of the street), which was a joyous occasion, as was washing off the congealed egg yolk and white. Bastards. I'd still love to know who came to my house a few months back (while I was away working) and smeared a big friggin' "T" on my window in egg. Not quite as ominous as it may have been intended, but the fact that someone came into our backyard to do this... I dunno... it's kind of like finding out someone's slept in your bed without you knowing, while you were away.
Anyway, I'm heading in to uni to pick up the six books which are going to put a $300 dent in my bank account and then head off to earn it back! Here's some monsterism...

Monster: The Truck
Movie: Duel
Duel is a film I cannot speak highly enough of. It used to get played late night around the same time during summer each year on Channel 10 here. It's Jaws on the road and is in fact a pre-Jaws Spielberg film! Great suspense, fantastic use of location, and all around just a really good piece of cinema (even though it was originally a tele-movie). There are a couple of dodgey moments of film making here and there, but everything else totally makes up for it. There's a scene where the protagonist visits a small diner, which is one of my all time favourite sequences ever put to film. The Truck itself just kicks all kinds of arse too!

Final Approval
Just got word back from Dan Berger at Mirage - Peter Laird gave final approval to my script for Tales of the TMNT #50! What does this mean? The art can finally start going ahead! Still not sure who will be working on it. From what I hear, Jim's deep into the Mikey mini-series (should be sick!) and still has some issues of Tales AND the ongoing in the works, so there's a chance someone else might be doing the art...
Never been so exhausted after anything in my entire life. Not the script revisions, no, no, no - last night I went and saw the Chemical Brothers with my cousin Kayne who I get to see once in a blue moon. Easily the most stunning show I've ever been to! Easily! Kayne, Jeremy, Cass and myself were cutting sick out there (general admin of course)! I was suprised to see how few people were getting into it - I mean really getting into it. The four of us were dancing mad crazy and everyone else, even the chicks seemed kind of... well... lame.
These two dudes came up to me afterwards and made the same observation, having recognised me as "one of those dudes going nuts out there!"
Massive props to Kayne for setting the whole night up and for making the trip down to Melbourne. He's off to India at the end of this week to begin six months worth of sound design on a film, which sounds like it'll be a total blast!
I'm going to try and get back into the habit of things too...

Much like the aforementioned Elmo in Grouchland, I was the only person above the age of 8 in the cinema when I saw this. I'm a mad crazy fan of the old cartoons - I hated Scrappy-Doo and I do a pretty good Shaggy. Anyway, say what you want about this movie, I loved it and though it wasn't the old 'toon, it was still a lot of fun! The monster designs were particularly cool, and I thought the opening sequence managed to capture the show perfectly. It's still a pretty creepy lookin' dude to!

Fernando!
This is an example of the artwork being done by Fernando L. Gonzales, the artist I'm currently working with on Ryan Brown's (tentatively titled) "The Return of the C.O.W. Boys of Moo Mesa".Pretty slick, kind of like Frank Fosco meets Rick Veitch or Richard Corban.
Big thanks to Tokka for the heads up!
